Two sisters in Watamu are turning a family investment into a growing entrepreneurial venture with their cheese and salami value-addition business using solar green energy to power its operations and securing fresh impetus through affordable financing from Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE).
Delilah Tende, 24 and her younger sister Daniella, 15 are the owners of DUE BAMBINE LTD a company established in 2020 by their parents, Daniel Tende Ngowa and Diana Wairimu to give them an opportunity to build a business of their own.
Based in Watamu, Kilifi County, the enterprise focuses on value addition in cheese and salami with their parents providing supervision and guidance.
The company uses solar green energy to power the project supporting its operations through a clean and sustainable source of energy.
In April 2026, the company secured its first KSh 3 million loan through KIE’s affordable lending facility which offers financing at an interest rate of 10% on a reducing-balance basis.
The facility enabled the business to acquire new machinery and packaging equipment, strengthening its capacity to process and package its products while complementing its use of solar green energy.
For Delilah, the financing marked an important milestone in the company’s journey providing an opportunity to invest in its operations while maintaining a strong focus on repayment.
“KIE’s affordable loaning facility of 10% reducing balance was one of the best things that happened to our young business.
The challenge of ensuring that we repay promptly is what keeps us going,” she said.
Confirming the company’s repayment performance, KIE Malindi Manager Mr. Julius Change said DUE BAMBINE LTD has been doing well in meeting its loan repayment obligations.
The company’s experience illustrates KIE’s role in supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with affordable financing to strengthen productive capacity, promote value addition and pursue sustainable growth including through the adoption of clean energy solutions.
For the Tende family, the business represents more than an investment in machinery. By establishing the company for their daughters, the parents have given them an opportunity to experience business ownership first-hand, develop entrepreneurial skills and learn the importance of financial responsibility under their guidance, while embracing solar green energy as part of the enterprise’s sustainable growth.
Through its affordable lending facility, KIE is helping enterprises translate ambition into productive investment.
For DUE BAMBINE LTD, that support is contributing to the growth of a business owned by two young sisters, powered by solar green energy and built around their family’s belief in their potential.
Their journey demonstrates how access to affordable credit and clean energy can help turn a family’s entrepreneurial vision into a tangible and sustainable business opportunity for the next generation.
